This page describes how the bird atlas data and the content of this site can be used.
Until the end of 2014, the usage of the detailed third atlas data has been limited for researchers and other people who have co-operated in the atlas project. The data will be open for everybody in 2015 and it can be downloaded from the atlas website. The present restrictions for use of the data hold for grid- and species-specific indices of breeding evidence and survey activity. If you wish to use these data, please contact Dr. Jari Valkama:

The data of the 1st and 2nd bird atlas (from 1970's and 80's) is available under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 -license. You may use the data freely, if you follow the terms of this license. The data is available as CSV files and a machine-readable application interface (API).

Species photos on this site are mainly Creative Commons -licensed works from other sites. These can be used according to the same license they are used here with. The license and attribution information for each photo are shown on the footer of each page.
Experts at the Finnish Museum of Natural History have confirmed that each photo depicts the correct species. (The photos have been taken from around the world, so the subspecies are not necessarily those that are breeding in Finland.)
